During my final year of high school, my French teacher asked for volunteers to read a book from a small selection and then give a presentation on it to the class. The last book left was The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Since no one was volunteering—perhaps because it was so thick—I eventually raised my hand hesitantly. And what a joy that timid gesture turned out to be! The book captivated me from the very first pages, and its author ended up becoming one of my favorites. I was young back then, yet the memory remains vivid. Not long ago, I bought the Kindle version of that book and I’m eager to immerse myself once again into the lives of the Joad family.
