Forever in My Heart: A Tribute to Mum

My mum, Solange, is having brain surgery on November 4th. I hope with all my heart that the bad luck in our family will stop.

She is truly wonderful, and I challenge anyone to find a woman as humble as her. She’s undoubtedly my closest confidante because she has a knack for knowing every time exactly how I feel, without me saying a word. Furthermore, she understands my life struggles better than anyone else, and it brings me such a profound sense of peace to have someone so supportive and understanding by my side. Not a day goes by without me reflecting on how fortunate I am to have her.

But today I’m scared. Lately, every time a member of my family was admitted to the hospital, they didn’t make it out alive. I’ve lost four close family members in less than two years, including my dad. I would be devastated if… Oh, let’s just not talk about this yet.

I call her every day for around 25 minutes because she feels lonely at times. This morning, she was busy cleaning the house. She never sits idle; she always finds something to do, just like me. Ever since my dad passed away, she lights a candle for him daily. I’m the one who buys them, and she often chides me for stocking up so much. But she’s my mum, and I want to make her life as beautiful as possible. I wasn’t a perfect teenager—I put my parents through a lot. Adolescence is a challenging phase, and one that I know all too well. Even though that is behind us, I still try to make amends every single day, as though I still haven’t fully forgiven myself, even though they did a long time ago.

Oh mum, you are a strong and brave woman. You can make it through this. I’ll be there every step of the way.

I love you ❤
